The Programme: "Ideas for more! Learn all day.“
With its programme "Ideas for more! Learn all day.“, the German Children and Youth Foundation has been offering practical knowledge in the field of all-day school development in Germany since 2004.
The programme supports schools in making the transition from the current German school system to an all-day school model. The Foundation helps existing all-day schools in further developing the quality of the education on offer.
“Ideas for more! Learn all day.“ is the only school development programme in Germany in which both the Federal Government and the individual regional states participate. It aims to enhance the quality of the educational system and to foster the development of a professional network across national federal states.
From 2004 to 2009 the Federal Government supported "Ideas for more! Learn all day.“ as part of the investment programme "The Future of Education and Care" (IZBB). The Federal Ministry of Education and Research in conjunction with the European Social Fund then extended the programme until 2014.
At the programme’s core are its regional service agencies which are established in all 16 regional states. They support schools with their pedagogical and local expertise.
Comprehensive topics within our programme
- Changing learning cultures
- Time and space allocation in all-day schools
- Shaping change
- Developing partnerships
- Living environments of children and young adults
Our main fields of action
Learning from other schools is the most valuable way for a schools development and sustainability. That is why we have built regional and national networks - e.g. the national project All-day school Network - which enable schools to exchange experiences, develop strategies for change and share their own expertise. Schools/Staff have the opportunity to visit other institutions and to implement successful strategies into their own development project . Knowledge transfer sites
There is enough available knowledge about all-day schools, but it needs to be passed on and further promoted within the school system. Professional exchange at trainings, conferences and congresses is one of the central goals of our programme. Our main events are the Annual All-Day School Congress and the Transfer Forum. Impulses for quality
Our main focus up to now has been to support schools in implementing the all-day school concept. In addition to this, we are now focusing on improving the quality and the sustainability of these offers. In order to achieve this the German Children and Youth Foundation is cooperating with science organizations and Teacher Training Institutes
